Cora Mae Summerall's Obituary
Cora Mae (Notz) Summerall, 95, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus Friday, July 6, 2018. She was a Proverbs 31 woman who leaves behind a legacy of Christ-like love, unyielding faith and many fond memories that will continue to bless those who love her.
Born on February 2, 1923, to Christian and Olga Notz, Cora spent her younger years at the family homestead in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL, and held a special bond with her aunt, Anna, who raised her as a daughter after Olga’s death in 1929. She loved time with her brothers, Arthur and Walter (both deceased) and her sister, Ruth (Campisi).
Cora married Joseph Andrew Summerall on August 10, 1940. They lived in Astatula, FL for the rest of their years, raising six children in a three-bedroom home. She loved to fish, garden and spend time just staying busy. Cora poured her love into cooking, sewing, canning and raising her family to stretch a dollar and put God above all others. She started each day at the breakfast table reading Our Daily Bread and enjoying a cup of coffee.
A long-time member of Astatula Baptist Church, Cora used her gifts to sing in the choir, volunteer for VBS and coordinate church dinners. She was active in Sunday School, Super Seniors and was a faithful prayer warrior.
She was “Miss Cora” to many, but those who call her Mom and Grandma will truly miss her words of wisdom, never-fading smile, her little jokes, the time she freely gave and her home-cooking that brought the family together for special times around her table.
Cora is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; son, Carl; and grandson, Michael (Reid). She leaves behind her children, Charlotte (Hoppenstedt); Virginia (Royce McClelland); Jerry (Beverly); Carolyn (James Reid); Diane (Bill Miller); and daughter-in-law, Linda (Carl), along with 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sister, Ruth; nephews Chris and Joseph Campisi; nephews Melvin, Paul and Steve Notz; nieces Carolee Messer and Donna Nixon; and her church family.
Family and friends will gather at the Astatula Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, for visitation with Funeral Services at 11 a.m., followed by interment at the Astatula Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Astatula Baptist Church Building Fund, and condolences may be shared with the family on the tribute wall.
