Christel E. Stoeveken's Obituary
Christel E. Stoeveken, age 82, of Leesburg, FL peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, with her children and loved ones by her side following strokes earlier in the week. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree of Science in Art Education from UWM in 1964, a master’s degree of Science in Fine Art- Drawing and Painting at UWM in 1965, and then went on to receive a Study Grant/Curatorial Practices at Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles, CA in 1968. Christel had been selected for many commissions and awards over her career- “Watercolor Wisconsin” 1985 & 1989, “Sacajawea Award” 1985, Miller Brewing Company, Kohler Company and had works of art selected to be included in museum representation/private collections. She is also listed in Who’s Who in American Art from 1982-05, Who’s Who in the World from 2003-2006, Who’s Who in America from 1998-06, and Who’s Who of American Women from 1996-2007. Her passions were art, making jewelry, and gardening. She was widowed in 2011 from her husband of 44 years, Tony. She is survived by Jennifer (Dean) Trail; grandchildren, Tyler and Alexa Carlson; son, Joshua (Adria) Stoeveken; grandchildren, Portia and Daphne; sister, Ingrid Finnan and niece Mollie (Robert) Gropp; great-niece, Emma; sister-in-law Mary Jane (Patrick) Brosseau; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 11th, 2023, at 10:30AM at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heifer International or Habitat for Humanity.
