LTC Charles Gordon Madsen's Obituary
LTC Charles “Chuck” Madsen
Charles Gordon Madsen (Chuck), age 95, of Mount Dora would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received his final transfer orders for a permanent change of station. This assignment comes with huge perks, including a reunion with family, friends, and his wife Betsy that he has not seen in a long time. He will also be enjoying time with old Army comrades, socializing, dancing, eating great food, and singing opera in Italian to his heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. The colonel left detailed instructions for friends and family to celebrate his mission here, which has now been completed. “Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated.”
Chuck had one heck of a ride. A veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, he was awarded a Silver and Bronze Star medals for combat Valor. He was also awarded a Purple Heart and many other citations for his campaigns with the US Army. He pursued many interests including the arts, opera, cooking, mechanics, woodworking and wine making. He was an avid lover of people and cultures from everywhere he went. He was a true renaissance man with a thirst for exploring everything he encountered.
Chuck is survived by his three sons and their families; Erik Romer & Ty Madsen (Franklin NC), Charles Christian & Ruthanne Madsen (Boston MA), and Mark Andrew & Sherry Madsen (Tavares FL), as well as six grandchildren Jacob, Maybeth, Savannah, Jack, Joshua and Jonathan Madsen. Chuck was able to travel the world, spoke several languages, appreciated everyone and set a splendid example of how to enjoy life and to appreciate it every day. Chuck will be remembered in a private ceremony at the Florida National Cemetery early next year.
In lieu of flowers, his sons ask that you remember someone special in your life, let them know, and “seize the day”.
