Charles McVey Lovett's Obituary
Charles McVey Lovett 91, of Tavares, passed away on January 5, 2015. He was born in Sparkhill, New York and moved to Tavares in 2010 from Harrisville, New Hampshire. He was a retired Maintenance Manager for National Airlines in New York City, where his responsibility extended to Newark, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Norfolk. Lovett worked in aircraft maintenance for nearly 70 years beginning when he joined the Navy in 1942. A veteran of WWII, he worked as an aircraft mechanic until he left the service in 1946. He then joined Pan American Grace and worked in Lima, Peru as a line mechanic until 1948 when he returned to the States and signed on with National Airlines in Newark. In his first year with National, Lovett was made lead mechanic and transferred to Idewild (JFK) International Airport where he advanced to Foreman. In 1954 he was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor and in 1957 he gained his position of Maintenance Manager, which he held until his retirement from National Airlines in 1978. In 1970, while still working for National, he purchased Keene Air Service, a Fixed Base Operation in New Hampshire involving air taxi operations, airplane repair and maintenance, and flight instruction. He continued providing these services until 2008 after changing the business name to C.M. Lovett, Inc in 1979. In 1997 Lovett was honored for his 55 years in flying with the prestigious Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award named for the mechanic who designed and built the engine used by the Wright Brothers in the first flight. In 2011 he became a partner in the purchase and management of the Baytree Golf Course in Tavares. Lovett was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Mount Dora. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly Davidson Lovett. Also surviving are her children; Charles “Chip” (Jennifer) Lovett of Stamford, Vermont, Daniel “Dan” (Ignacia) Lovett of Fort Collins, Colorado Leslie (Russell) Bullamore of Fort Collins, Maureen Perreault of West Springfield, Massachusetts and Kerry (Rolf) Schneider of Atlanta, Georgia, his brother; John B. Lovett of Rye, New York, sisters; Marjorie McGrath of Palm City, Florida, Shirley McGowan of Pearl River, New York and Mary Frey of Somerset, New Jersey, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 9th, 2015, at 9:00AM, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Mt. Dora, Florida. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444. Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall.
