Catherine M Sullivan's Obituary
Catherine passed away on April 7, 2021 in Tavares, Florida at The Cove. She was born on October 4, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the oldest of 5 children and loved to sing. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and then moved to the Los Angeles area when she was in her 20’s. She stayed in the Los Angeles area for about 50 years. She was a professional opera singer and enjoyed singing in night clubs and aboard cruise ships. She also sold real estate in the Los Angeles area for many years.
Catherine is survived by her two children. She is also survived by her siblings, and their children. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Catherine was a devout Catholic and believed in the power of prayer and the rosary. She spent the last 2 years of her life in Florida, first staying with her sister and her husband. After about a year she moved to The Cove which was about 20 minutes from her sister. She was a creature of habit and loved to have afternoon tea. I think it reminded her of her childhood, since her mom was from Scotland and often had tea. We celebrated the holidays and birthdays together and always had a fun time hearing her stories. When she was young, she sang and performed at night clubs. Her soprano voice was noticed and she was able to travel on cruise ships as a performer. She always had a nice room on the ship and enjoyed traveling in style.
Even though Aunt Catherine was only in Florida for about two years we were happy she was able to celebrate holidays, birthdays and other milestones with us. Whenever we took a family photo Aunt Cathy was always the first one ready with a pose and a smile. We cherish the memories and are grateful that we had a chance to make memories with her.
A gathering of family and friends of Catherine is scheduled for Friday, April 9, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, Florida 32778. A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine is scheduled for Saturday, April 10th at 9:00 AM at Saint Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, 218 Ocklawaha Ave.
