Caroline L. Shearman's Obituary
Caroline Luse Shearman, of Howey-in-the Hills, passed away in Tavares on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the age of 100 years. Caroline was predeceased by her husband, Thomas O. Shearman, her parents, three brothers, a sister, and niece, Martha Hedgecraft. Surviving are nephews, Robert (Wanda) Phillips of Greenwood, IN, Jay (Joyce) Luse of Lebanon, IN, Charles (Sherry) Luse of Hamilton, OH; nieces, Lois Luse of Apopka, FL and Carolyn (Robert) Acor of De Leon Springs, FL. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, June 26, 1908. Her parents soon moved to central Indiana to manage the family farm. During childhood she learned the value of labor, thrift, sharing and family, qualities she never forgot. As a young adult, she moved from Indiana to Sarasota. She met her husband there and was employed as office manager of Coast Federal Savings and Loan, until her retirement. Relocating to Howey-in-the-Hills was Tom's idea, but Caroline loved the area and grew close to many neighbors. Her happiest years were those spent visiting with those who came to chat, have lunch or share books and memories. She was a gifted seamstress, doll maker and needlework artist. Lovely, gracious and funny, she will forever be missed by all who loved her. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 27 from 10 -11 am with a funeral service starting at 11 am, all at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Taylor Memorial Cemetery, Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. Arrangements are entrusted to Steverson-Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares, 352-343-4444.
