Carole Sue Warner's Obituary
Carole Rollison Bartholomew Warner Brooke-Stewart, age 81, died peacefully at her home in Tavares, Florida surrounded by family and beloved husband, Jeffrey Brooke-Stewart after a decades-long, courageous battle against cancer. She was born May 27, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As an Army brat, she started school in Japan and graduated from high school and college in Fairbanks, Alaska.
While in high school and college, Carole was an experienced rifle shooter and won many state and national matches. As a member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Women’s Rifle Team, she also set several national records. Carole was named an All-America rifle shooter in 1963 and as such was inducted into the UAF Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alaska Fairbanks; Master of Arts in Teaching, University of Alaska Anchorage, and received a post-secondary certificate in community college education at the College of Central Florida, Ocala, FL.
Carole retired from the Alaska Public School education system in 2001, having served as the Adult Education Specialist for the state of Alaska; Professional Development Coordinator and teacher, Anchorage School District; and adjunct professor at the University of Alaska. In 2008 she retired from the College of Central Florida as Associate Professor, Communications and Literature.
Carole loved to travel and visited countless sites in the US and Canada via RV, but her passion was cruising, by river and ocean. After retirement she enjoyed cruises to China, Russia, Australia, Egypt, Costa Rica and the Panama Canal.
An active church member, Carole served as deacon, trustee and moderator for many years at the First Congregational Church, Anchorage, AK. In addition to being an organist at many military chapels while her former husband, Mark Bartholomew, served in the Army, she was also the organist at the First Presbyterian Church, Inverness, FL; West Ocala Methodist Church, Ocala, FL; and St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Eustis, FL. Carole was also an active and accomplished member of the handbell choirs at First Presbyterian Church, Eustis, FL and St. James Episcopal Church, Leesburg, FL.
Carole is survived by loving husband Jeffrey Brooke-Stewart, Tavares, FL; daughters Laura Bartholomew Young (Ty) of Stevensville, MD, and Rebecca Bartholomew Marcoux (Steven) of Foxborough MA; grandchildren Marin Young Wilson (Alexander), Christian Young, Joshua Marcoux, Ryan Marcoux; step-Mother Barbara Rollison, Inverness, FL; brother Kent Rollison (Molly) of Summerville, SC; and niece Victoria Rollison Hamilton (Charles) and nephew David Rollison. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Elizabeth (Betty) Rollison, former husband Mark Bartholomew and husband Gordon Warner.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving support of step-sisters Pam Nolan and Sharon Joachim, step-son Scott Warner, step-daughters Julie Gearsbeck, Jane Brooke-Stewart and Claire Girard; friends Monika Potter, Cindi and Gary Armstrong, Dianna Miller of Ariel’s Florist, Tavares, FL and numerous church members.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. James Episcopal Church Children’s Choir, St. Thomas Episcopal Church Organ Fund or the University of Alaska Fairbanks Rifle Team Scholarship Fund.
Memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Leesburg, FL on May 10th at 11 am. Private burial will follow at the family plot at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness, FL.
