Carl George Summerall's Obituary
Carl G. Summerall, 71, of Astatula, FL, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 8, 2017, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Linda. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend who will missed by many.
Born on August 28, 1946, in Leesburg, FL, to the late Joseph A. and Cora M. (Notz) Summerall, Carl attended Tavares High School, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. He graduated in 1964, and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.
Carl married Linda Sue Ward on March 28, 1970. They have two daughters, Debra Spurrier (Mark) of Frederick, Md, and Julie Berry (Jonathan) of Tavares, FL. He enjoyed spending time with his family, raising rabbits and fishing.
A dedicated member of Astatula Baptist Church, advancing the Kingdom of Heaven was Carl’s passion. Whether supporting missionaries, traveling to Mexico to support churches, teaching Sunday School, and mentoring youth, Carl was faithful in his pursuits.
Carl served the community of Howey-in-the-Hills as a police officer, retiring as Chief of Police in 1999. He was a member of the Lake County Fair Board, and the American Rabbit Breeders Association, serving as a leader on the local level. He was the first Purina Rabbit Feeds Ambassador, and mentored many 4-H youth across the nation.
He is survived by his mother, wife, daughters and grandchildren Brianna, Emily, Madison, Zachary and Dalton; great-granddaughter, Isabella; four sisters and one brother.
Visitation is Thursday, December 14, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at Steverson-Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, with Funeral Services scheduled for Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Astatula Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Astatula Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Carl has requested donations be made to the Astatula Baptist Church Missions Fund for Mexican Missions by mail. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on the tribute wall.
