Byron M. Burkett's Obituary
Mr. Byron M. Burkett, of Tavares, Florida, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the age of 91 years. He was born in Greene County, Indiana. He served his country fighting in the Pacific in the US Army in WWII. After many years of service, he retired from Naval Avionics as a civilian employee. He was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion in Indianapolis. He moved to central Florida in 2005 from Indianapolis. He attended Mid-Lakes Christian Church in Tavares. He enjoyed bird watching and gardening and was an avid bowler in the past. He is remembered by his sons, Tony Burkett and his wife, Mary of Tavares and Mike Burkett and his wife, Bonita of Leesburg, FL; daughter, Diana Strakis and her husband, John of Grand Island, FL; brother, Danny Burkett of Spencer IN; sisters, Imogene Herrington of Paragon, IN, Lora Halfhill of Spencer, IN, Dora Hardin of Brazil, IN and Myrna Dyer of Spencer, IN, grandchildren, Bryan Burkett of Indianapolis, Aaron Burkett of Riverside, CA, Brandy Burkett of Indianapolis and Derrick Strakis of Leesburg, FL; as well as 9 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778, www.cshospice.org All services will be held in Indianapolis through Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home, Indianapolis, IN 317-241-9311.
