Billie Jean Cobb's Obituary
Cobb, Billie Jean, passed away peacefully at her home in Tavares on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the age of 64. She was surrounded by her family following her courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on September 28, 1944, to Bill and Ernestine (Hurtado) Rodgers, and raised in San Angelo, Texas. On August 29, 1964, she married Melvin Cobb, and the couple lived in Greeley, Colorado for over 35 years. She was a devoted wife to her husband, selfless mother to her children, and quilter extraordinaire. She worked at Aims Community College, where she earned her Liberal Arts degree. She retired from Aims Community College, after which she and her husband relocated to Tavares, Florida. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband Mel Cobb of Tavares; her son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Pam Cobb of Red Mesa, Arizona; her daughter, Stacie Cobb and fiancée Alan Parham of Knoxville, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Tabitha Colter, Freedom Cobb, and Naat'aaniibaa' Cobb; her mother, Ernestine Ratliff; her sisters and their husbands, Jane Lyday of Paris, Texas; Mary Ella and Tom Seibt of Canyon Country, California; Susan and Angelo Papalexandris of Houston, Texas; Kathy Rodgers of Houston, Texas; her brothers, John Rodgers of Pensacola, Florida; Joe Rodgers and wife Waka of Blossom, Texas; her faithful companion Polly the poodle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 22, from 2:00PM until 4:00PM at Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home in Tavares. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 23, at 9:00AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Mt. Dora with Father Robert D'Aversa the Celebrant. A reception will follow the service at the Baytree Community Clubhouse, Tavares at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lake and Sumter, 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, Florida 32778.
