Betty Ruth Garland's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Ruth Garland, of Astatula, FL, passed away on Saturday, October 10th, 2009 at the age of 74 years. She was born in Westchester, PA. In June of 1952 she married John E. Garland. They moved to central Florida in 1992 and became permanent residents in 1999. Betty Ruth retired from the Great Valley School District in Malvern, PA in 1996 after 26 years as a cook. She was a Rebekah with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Centreville, DE and a member of The Grange in Delaware. She loved to knit and crochet. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Louise Garland. Betty Ruth is remembered by her husband of 57 ½ years John E. Garland; daughters, Suzan Venezia and her husband, Leonard of Westchester, PA and Sandra Holliday and her husband, Edward of Malvern, PA; son, John E. Garland III of Philadelphia, PA as well as 5 grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Holliday, Lenny and Megan Venezia and John Garland IV and 1 great grandchild, Thomas Venezia. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12th, from 4:00 - 5:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Tavares with a Funeral Ceremony beginning at 5:00 PM. Burial will be in the Great Valley Presbyterian Cemetery in Great Valley, PA later in the week. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778. Arrangements are entrusted to Steverson-Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares, 352-343-4444.
