Betty Ellen Clendinnen's Obituary
Betty Ellen Clendinnen of Altoona, Florida passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the age of 85 years. She was born on September 5, 1939, in Hartford, Connecticut, to her parents: Walter and Ethyl (Johnson) Hallberg. Betty spent winters in Grand Island, Florida from Long Island, New York for nine years before she and her husband, Bill, decided to relocate permanently in July 2015. Betty and Bill were married for 52 wonderful years. Along with the birth of her children, she considered those days the most important of her life. Betty worked as a secretary for Edwin B. Stimpson Company, Inc., for 20 years. She loved walking along the seashore and collecting shells, going to craft fairs, was an avid baker, and enjoyed preparing holiday meals for her family. Betty loved the solace of the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed camping and day trips with Bill. In her later years, she loved to play bingo, watch game shows, and do puzzle books. She also enjoyed taking her golf cart down to Lake Yale and spending time near the peaceful waters. Betty was a long-time member of Bayport United Methodist Church in Bayport, New York for 44 years. She was also a member of Sunlake Christian Fellowship in Grand Island. Betty was preceded in death by her husband: William D. “Bill” Clendinnen. She is remembered and will be dearly missed by her son, John Clendinnen and his wife, Kyoko of Hiroshima, Japan; daughters, Carol Clendinnen of Tavares, Florida and Susan Clendinnen of Deland, Florida; sister, Nancy Hallberg-Emerson of Brewster, Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Karen Vanderwal and her husband, Terrence of Sarasota, Florida; and three loving grandchildren, Josiah, Micah and Andrew. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather for a viewing on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 4:00~6:00PM at the Steverson, Hamlin and Hilbish Funeral Home in Tavares, Florida. There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:30AM at the Lakeview Terrace Clubhouse in Altoona, Florida. Entombment will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 2:30PM at Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis, Florida.
