Bethel W. Slater's Obituary
Bethel W. Slater, age 95, of Tavares, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Born in Grundy, Virginia, Bethel moved to Weirsdale, Florida from Kentucky before settling in Tavares in 1993.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Tavares since 1993, Bethel's faith and community were central to her life. She shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with Edward Slater until his passing in September 2006.
Bethel was a dedicated homemaker who cherished her family above all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Edward, her son Freddie, and most recently, her daughter Maxie Hackney.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her grandsons Paul Hackney and his wife Audrey of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Steve Hackney and his wife Jenny of St. Cloud, Florida. Bethel was also blessed with great-grandchildren Hannah (Bobby) Edwards of St. Cloud, Elizabeth (Nick) Albright of Lake Nona, Samuel Hackney, Ainsley Hackney, and Julianna Hackney, all of St. Cloud. She eagerly anticipated the arrival of her great-great-grandson, Wesley Steven Edwards, due in July 2025. Bethel is also survived by her son-in-law, Eddie (Carolyn) Hackney of Tavares and nieces, Margaret Reeves of Ocala, Debbie Peak of Kentucky and Mary Jean Fields of Kentucky.
Bethel's legacy of love, faith, and family will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to gather at First Baptist Church of Tavares on Wednesday, February 19th from 10:00 am to 10:45 am with a funeral ceremony starting at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Ocala.
