Benjamin F. Texter's Obituary
Ben Texter, age 87, of Umatilla passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014. He was born August 11, 1927 in Parma, OH and grew up in Geauga County. A World War II veteran, he lived in numerous places, including many years in Burton and Hambden, OH and in Arkansas. He lived for quite a while in Eustis, FL where his wife of almost 50 years, Olive Texter, passed away. In later years he and Olive had enjoyed being “snow birds”. His last home was in Umatilla, where he and Oscar the cat made many friends. Ben enjoyed life and people, as evidenced by the number of friends, several from Geauga County, in Waterman Hospital on his last day. He spent three years at Kent State and then took a junior high teaching position in Hambden for a few years. He also had various other jobs, including an office position in Cleveland. After a few years of marriage, Ben and Olive moved to a rural home in Arkansas where they enjoyed peace and quiet on their 88-acre farm. Well, maybe the cows made noise on occasion. Ben found what he most loved to do-buy a property, improve it, and sell it, and he worked quite a bit with real estate. They loved the area but as they got older they needed to be closer to more civilization, so they came to Eustis. The Texter family had seven children, five of whom had passed away. Ben is survived by his sister, Dr. Merry Texter and two nephews, Eric Hess and Marty Texter. If you have a donation in Ben’s memory, please send it to the Burton American Legion Post 459, P.O. Box 261 Burton, OH 44021 and/or Burton Congregational Church UCC, 14558 West Park St., Burton, OH 44021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444. Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall.
