Bob Pouliot
This is Bob Pouliot an old friend from the 60's. In doing a search found this site announcing Al's passing.
I met Al at Fort Ord, CA, in the army where we became friends in 1963. In 64, I transferred to Korea and we lost track of each other. Moving forward to 1970, my wife Carrie and I took a driving trip that involved a weeks stay at Palm Gardens to visit Al and his wife. (sorry her name escapes us) Al and his wife were very gracious and showed us a wonderful time.
We had our poodle, that love to chase tennis balls. I was tossing her ball into the lake inlet. She would jump in the water and retrieved it several times..When Al came by and said: "You do know that there are gators in there..." (oops) that ended well.
Al took me out on the lake to fish. While doing so, there was an "older" gentleman fishing a little ways from us. He had hooked on to an alligator (about a 4 footer). He asked if we could take it in so he could have his picture taken with it. Al obliged and here Bob HOLD ON!! to it saying "hold it's tail and jaws tight.. which I did. It was exciting.
After the photo, (wish I'd have had mine taken with it) we took it back and released it.
One day I asked Al If I could help around the place... Al said " Do you want to mow the grass?" .... Sure... What Al didn't know was that I hadn't ever used a riding mower... and
that I came within an inch of driving it in the water...
Al and his wife took us to several place of interest Dayton race track and some great restaurants.
I am adding the only photo that I have from our visit. I believe that our arms behind our backs were a testament to our "At Ease" Army training.
The Buse's will always have a place in our fond memories.
If you get this, Please feel free to contact us.
