Adolph Joseph Kovar, Jr.'s Obituary
Adolph Joseph Kovar, Jr. was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 17, 1927. He was #3 of 6 children born to Adolph Kovar, Sr. and Rose Pekar Kovar. He was the last one living of the 6 Kovar children. He was called “Junior” during childhood and then “Al” as an adult. Upon graduation from High School in 1945, he served in the US Army for 2 years. He then worked for the Navy Department where he met Ruth Elizabeth Mitchell and they were married in 1949. Almost 2 years later they moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where their daughter Janet (Jan) was born.
Al worked for the US Postal Service starting as a Letter Carrier riding a bicycle to deliver mail in Ft. Lauderdale and worked his way up to Postmaster of the Jensen Beach, FL Post Office. He retired from the Postal Service with 39 years of service. His wife of 46 years, Ruth died of ovarian cancer.
He then attended Hospice grief support meetings and met a widow, Pat McKay and they were married for 10 ½ years until she passed away.
He is survived by his daughter Jan Glock (Larry), 2 granddaughters, Lindsey Bates (Patrick) and Amy Mazurek (KJ) and 2 great-grandchildren Theo and Harper Mazurek.
Al was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club.
Al’s daughter, Jan convinced him to move closer so he moved to The Villages in 2013 (where he was a member of the Polka Lovers Club and got a red golf cart) before moving to Waterman Village in Mount Dora, FL.
The family of Al Kovar would like to thank you for the many prayers and kind expressions of sympathy and condolences and stories of friendship.
