Mike, Bobby, and Elaine--Dick and I were so sorry to hear about Joe. He and Sue were such great friends of ours here in the N. GA mountains and we missed them terribly when they sold their cabin and moved back to FL. We spent many evenings sharing stories, playing dominoes, and eating desserts together. After they moved we kept in touch via emails, phone chats, and we visited them when we were near Tavares on our antique car tours. Sue always made us a delicious spaghetti dinner along with the best cold slaw ever. They were a wonderful couple and we appreciate Bobby's and Mike's recent phone calls to update us on Joe's progress.

Joe Sanchez married my Mom, on November 22, 1974. I met him shortly thereafter, and have known him for the last 45 years. Joe was still working for the Orlando Sentinel at time. He did reporting, photography and human interest stories for the paper. He loved writing and was constantly writing stories and even books, hoping to be published. I followed his progress from typewriter, to simple word processor/writer to desktop and finally laptop computers. Joe did well with the computers, but email gave him a fit. (like it does for most of us.)

A big surprise came when he and Mom decided to build a cabin in the North Georgia mountains. I lived about two hours away, so for the next twenty years, I was able to visit with them each summer.

I am grateful for having known Joe, as a part of my family over the years. He was a kind and gentle man who treated my Mom well. He was loved by Mom and our family, and we will miss him greatly. One last thing... every time we ate together, he always asked if I was going to bless the meal. God bless you, Joe. Thank you. Mike Baker
