The Water Wonderland Antique & Classic Boat Society Chapter sends condolences to the Pomeroy family on the passing of Mort. A great and generous chapter member for many years. Like an old boat, Mort was one of a kind, a real beauty.
We fondly remember the Water Wonderland post poker run picnics. Mort and Charla were such great hosts, opening their place to over 100 guests each year. It was truly a boat show before the boat show. Thanks for the memories.

You didn’t have to be around Mort very long before you knew that he was a very kind and generous person. And when you were around him, he always made you laugh with a joke or some kind of funny story. Prayers for the family.
I started thinking about what all I wanted to say about Mort and the great memories call came rushing in.
I met Mort in the summer of 1974 when I was hired to work at his first McDonalds Restaurant in Greenville, Michigan. I had just graduated from high school. I had held down part time jobs all thru school but this was to be my first full time job. I loved working for Mort. He was more than the boss. It was not unusual to find him working right beside you at the grill. I learned from Mort that it did not matter where you worked, what really mattered was that you took pride in what you were doing and you did it to the very best of your ability. Being the person asking “do you want fries with that?” was nothing to be ashamed of if you treated your job like it was your career. I still have the Ronald McDonald watch that Mort gave me for my birthday. I also have the McDonald’s sweater he gave me for being the brightest student in the McDonald’s University HVAC class I attended. Mort let me know that being number one in a class of all men was important, not only to me but it was important to him as well. It meant a lot to me than the boss was proud of me. Mort would praise us in front of others when we had done well but he never scolded us in front of anyone else when we had done something wrong, that was done in private. It was not until I moved on and worked for someone who lacked Mort’s people skills that I began to truly appreciate the best of the lessons I learned from Mort. I have such great respect for the man. Not only for who he was but for the lessons he taught me about how others should be treated. I remember Pat at her best and I remember Maureen as a toddler. Although I have not seen Mort in many years it still makes me smile to think of him and my years at McDonald’s. It saddens me to know that I won’t be running across him again. Mort was truly a man worth knowing. He enriched the lives of the people he touched.

We will miss Mort at car shows and coffee when you are in Michigan UP. Life will not be the same without Mort. Very knowledgeable with Old Cars, and planes and especially boats. Been friends since 1970, when we went to Long Boat Key for winter vacation at the Holiday Inn. Rode in Morts Packard in Parade in St.Ignace. Mort, you will definately be missed. Love, Bruce and Carolyn Dodson, St. Ignace, Michigan (Former Mayor)
Mort, you will be missed by all that knew you. We remember all the great times we had at many car shows and the first time you took us to Mackinac Island. Even in the rain. Thanks for all the great memories. Prayers for Charla, Maureen.
