Mathew 'Matty' Fegers

Mathew Fegers of Mission Inn in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the age of 86 years. He was born in Glenview, Illinois to Mathew and Erna Fegers. He proudly served his country in the US Army in the Korean War. Matty owned and operated Matty’s Wayside Inn in Glenview. The restaurant was owned by his family since 1931. He retired in 1992 and moved to Mission Inn. Soon after, he was invited by the owners, who were former customers of his restaurant, to work as maître d’ at Nicker’s Restaurant at Mission Inn. He gladly accepted and worked there for many years. He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. Matty loved playing Golf. He met many good friends and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with them. Matty is remembered and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Veronica Young of Arlington Heights, Illinois; grandchildren, Jillian (Joseph) Faron of San Clemente, California and Joseph (Emily) Young of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; and great-grandchildren, Kai, Kirra and Patrick. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, November 17 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm with a memorial ceremony starting at 2:30 pm in the funeral home chapel.
