Frederick Langill Ralston
January 17, 1939 - March 11, 2022
Frederick Langill Ralston, 83, of Mt. Dora, FL passed away on March 11, 2022, in Tavares, FL. He was born on January 17, 1939 in Brockton, Massachusetts. Fred was a former machinist who became a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing for 42 years. He specialized in working with children who had multiple disabilities in addition to deafness, teaching mainly in Massachusetts and Florida. Fred loved fishing, woodworking and was an avid reader. We would always joke that the amount of books in our home would rival those in the Library of Congress, reading at least 2-3 books a week. He was always involved in any project that included teaching his grandchildren the fine art of woodworking. Fishing and enjoying the company of others was a passion especially when the fish were biting and the conversation was about History. Fred was a member of the National Guard. He had fond memories of his days at Camp Wellfleet in Massachusetts during this time. Surviving are his wife, Karen Ralston of Mount Dora, a daughter, Sheila Byrne of Elizabeth City, NC, a son Jesse Ralston also from Elizabeth City, NC, 4 grandchildren, Dominic, Nicholas, Hailey, and Allyson and 2 great grandchildren Evermore and Claire. Also predeceased by one grandchild, Ava. Steverson Hamlin and Habish of Tavares, Fl. is in charge of funeral arrangements. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, March 21 from 4-8. A memorial mass is scheduled at St. Timothys in Lady Lake at 8:30AM, Tuesday March 22, followed by a morning brunch. Place to be determined. A private cremation service will be held at a later time.
